Rashaad Newsome

February 3 – May 11, 2011

MATRIX 161 artist Rashaad Newsome selected works from the collection featuring coats of arms, which use symbols to convey the identity and status of the owner. The lion embodies strength. A crown implies nobility. Newsome combines these universal symbols with current emblems of status like Louis Vuitton hats, gold rope chains, jewels and fur-covered shields to create coats of arms for a 21st-century celebrity royalty. Visitors were invited to design their own coat of arms.
