Jan Tichy and The Amistad Center for Art & Culture’s Teen Advisory Group

Under the guidance of MATRIX 164 artist Jan Tichy, teens in The Amistad Center for Art & Culture’s Teen Advisory Group (TAG) produced a series of public light art installations that were installed in different locations in Hartford’s North End. The interactive map includes photos of each project and short videos in which students describe their projects.

“What I learned about art, my community, and myself from participating in this project is that you can send a deep message to the world. It made me realize that art isn’t easy, but it needs to have thoughtful meaning to it.”
— Kimberly and Aislyn, Teen Advisory Group members

“I am CREATIVE! Who knew my mind can think of something so bright and then bring it to reality? I would never have imagined hanging decorated bottles in a park like Sigourney but with the help of Jan Tichy I was able to illuminate part of Sigourney Park, and that was a big step for me.”
— Estada, Teen Advisory Group Member
