Art and Literacy programs at the Wadsworth provides educators with rich, curriculum-based programming that develops students’ literacy skills through close looking and thoughtful writing based on artworks in our permanent collection.

Museum on the Move (Grade 4)

Museum on the Move is a four-week art and literacy outreach program that explores landscapes from the museum’s permanent collection to develop fourth-grade students’ descriptive writing skills. View the newly redesigned student workbook and writing samples.

Evaluation has shown Museum on the Move has created effective standards-based lessons that continually reinforce the connection between the language and visual arts. For more about the success of this program, please see the annual evaluation reports from 2011, 2012, and 2013.

Art and Writing (Grades 3-5)

The Art and Writing Program builds students’ narrative, descriptive, and expository writing skills through the investigation of artworks in the museum’s collection. The program includes pre and post lesson plans as well as an Art and Writing: Classroom Extension Tour at the museum. Check out the Teacher Curriculum Resource and the 2016 evaluation report.
